Hand-carved mahjong is an intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong, rich in history and local character. After years of dedicated development, we have not only crafted several sets of professional tools for workshop but have also specially developed a new tile material, making it easier for beginners to experience the joy of carving.

This is more than just a workshop; it’s an immersive exploration of true craftsmanship. We sincerely invite you to pick up these meticulously prepared tools and, on the small canvas of a mahjong tile, feel the depth of each stroke and the warmth of each pattern. Experience the focus and patience that define this traditional art form.

Workshop Highlights

Under the personal guidance and demonstration of Master Ricky Cheung, you will:

• Understand the Carving Skills: Learn how to handle different carving tools, understand the posture, etc to grasp the essence of the craft.
• Experience the Joy of Carving: Practice on a blank mahjong tile as you will bring patterns to life with your own hands.
• Receive an Artisan Gift: After the workshop, you will take home an exquisite gift box, which includes your own creations, as a special souvenir of your journey into Hong Kong craftsmanship.

What’s Included

Your Hands-on Experience:

• Knowing different mahjong making tools.
• Learning to carve the mahjong tile patterns like “Dots” (Tongzi) and the straight line of “White Dragon” (Baiban).
• Receiving a tile made from our specially developed material for you to create your own creative pattern.
• A beautifully designed gift box by his daughter, Karen Aruba, featuring her father’s hand-carved patterns on the cover — the perfect way to store and display your creations.
• All necessary professional tools and materials will be provided during the workshop.
